Orrin Dean Vanderplas

Orrin Dean VanderPlas, 74, of Rochester, MN and formerly of St. Charles, MN passed away on June 8, 2013 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.Born June 4, 1939 in Rock Valley, Iowa the son of Gerald & Lela (Ledaboer) VanderPlas.He attended and graduated from high school at the Waseca Southern School of Agriculture.Orrin was a lifetime farmer, he was President of the Winona County National Farmers Organization for two years. He also worked at IBM for several years.He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.He took pride in teaching each of his kids how to play the card game 500; though he was rarely beaten.His greatest love was spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed vacations to Walt Disney World, Las Vegas, Branson, Wisconsin Dells and his annual trip to Cass Lake with his family.Surviving are his five children; David (Candace) of Templeton, CA, Barbara Weatherly (Rick) of Rochester, MN, Mary Ann Corcoran (John) of Madison, WI, Michael of Eagan, MN and Matthew (Amanda) of Robbinsdale, MN.Nine Grandchildren, Andrew & Garrett VanderPlas, Krista, Joshua, and Corrin Weatherly, Jack Corcoran, Caleb, Jovie, and Beckett VanderPlas.Five great grandchildren: Ethan, Chase, Rachel, Presley, and Jamie.His siblings which include five brothers: Arvin (Lois) of Harmony, MN, Marlin John (LaRae) of Green Lake, WI, Marlow (Patricia) of Preston, MN, Glen (Nancy) of Joice, IA, and Mark of Preston, MN and two sisters: Eloise Self (Gary) of Inola, OK and Rebecca Grabau (Dale) of Preston, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and an infant daughter.Memorial services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home.Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday and again one hour before services at the funeral home.
