Ora LaVonne Stoppel, 91 of Rochester, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2019 at Madonna Towers. Ora was born November 10, 1927 in Marion Township to Ernest and Hattie (McCaleb) Flury. She was a graduate of Rochester High School. Ora married Paul Charles Stoppel on March 21, 1947. Her husband farmed until his passing in 1971. First in Rochester, which is now the site of the Rochester Historical Society, and then bought and moved to the family farm outside Chatfield, MN. Besides being a homemaker, she also worked at Cliff's Café in Chatfield and the Rochester State Hospital. After selling the farm and moving into Chatfield, Ora provided daycare for many children which she fully enjoyed. Family and friends will always remember her fantastic pies, cinnamon rolls and homemade treats. Ora is survived by her eight children, Bonnie (Lance) Christie, Diane Sammet, Debra (Jack) O'Dell, Clayton (Shawn) Stoppel, Mona (Jan) Finley, Jayne (Bill) Meyer, Troy (Cindy) Stoppel, and Salli (Fiance Bill Moffett) Stoppel; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. Ora is also survived by her sister, Ethelyn "Susie" (Tom) Brogan; brother, Ernie (Becky) Flury; sisters-in-law, Karen Flury, Naomi Flury, Sherry Flury and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ora was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Stoppel; parents, Ernest and Hattie; brothers, Dwayne Flury, Norval "Bike" Flury, Darrold "Buzz" Flury, Jim Flury, LaVerne "Tinker" Flury and son-in-law, Fred Sammet. The family would like to thank the staff at both Madonna Summit in Byron and Madonna Towers in Rochester and also the Mayo Hospice team for their great care and support they gave our mother during the last few years. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 1300 Marion Rd. SE, Rochester, MN. Following the graveside service, a time of celebration and reflection will be held 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Marion Road Christian Church, 4051 50th Ave. SE Rochester, MN.
