Michael "Mike" J. Vail

Michael Mike J. Vail, age 56, of Byron, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his family. The visitation will be from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901. He was born on January 5, 1959, in Rochester, to Gordon and Evelyn (Quimby) Vail. Mike graduated from Byron High School in 1977. He worked at Alpec Roofing in Rochester, owned and operated Bear Country Pizza with his father for several years, and then Ross Design Manufacturing in Dodge Center. Mike loved sports, especially coaching little league football for 15 years and baseball. The most important part of his life was his grandsons, Michael and Trevor. Mike is survived by his daughter, Sara Vail; grandsons, Michael and Trevor; sisters, Retta Vail and Marcia (Robert) Thomas, all of Byron; nephew, Travis Mackey; nieces, Katie Quimby and Tiffany VonAhsen; two great-nieces, Sophi and Lily; four uncles and one aunt. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; four uncles andsix aunts. Following the visitation, Mike requested for family and friends to gather at 3D's Sports Bar in Byron to share happy memories and to celebrate his life.
