Michael Wrought, 39, died peacefully in the comfort of his parents' home on Saturday, November 14, 2015, after a lengthy, courageous battle with glioma brain cancer with his wife, parents, siblings, and friends by his side. Michael Gerald Wrought was born to Gerald and Laurel (Hawkins) Wrought in Rochester, Minnesota on December 12, 1975. He grew up in Rochester and attended Elton Hills and John Adams schools. He was a member of the John Marshall High School floor hockey team and earned three athletic letters. After graduating from high school in 1994, he worked at several grocery stores before being employed at the Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Mary's campus where he was known for his strong work ethic. Michael enjoyed viewing wildlife, going fishing, boating, bowling, playing games, putting puzzles together, and traveling. He was an avid Coca-Cola memorabilia collector. He enjoyed old car shows, listening to his favorite band Aerosmith, and watching M.A.S.H. or Adam Sandler movies on television. He supported his favorite charity, the Eagles Cancer Telethon, by having garage and bake sales for the last five years. On October 11, 2008, he and Jennifer Bernau were married in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minnesota. Michael is survived by his wife Jennifer, his parents, one sister Ann (Ken) Schmit, and their children: Cole, McKenna, Karissa, and Carter of Altura, Minnesota, one brother Matthew Wrought of Rochester, and his maternal grandmother Vivodale (Beach) Hawkins of Waseca, Minnesota. Survivors also include his aunts Pat (Lee) Lovelace and Rita (Martin) King of Rochester; Jane (Philip) Balow of Prior Lake, MN; Germaine (Paul) Kragh of Mankato, MN; Jolene Hawkins (Loren Voigt) of Eagan, MN; Barb Grotberg (Dave Elias) of Waseca, MN, and his many cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Henry and Ethel (O'Leary) Wrought and his maternal grandfather John Leo Hawkins. Michael was a very friendly person that will be greatly missed by his family, coworkers, and his many friends. His family would like to thank the Mayo Hospice staff for their care and support to help keep Michael comfortable and to all those who have supported us through this difficult time. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Saint Pius X Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW., Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to cancer research or a charity of the donor's choice.
