Melvin E. Stephan, 86, of Rochester, MN died peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Ostrander Care and Rehabilitation in Ostrander, MN from Dementia. Melvin Edward Stephan was born March 8, 1933 to Vernon and Inez (Kobler) Stephan in Rollingstone, MN. He graduated from Lewiston High School. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. From 1957-1961 he served in the U.S. Airforce and continued with the Airforce and Army Reserves. On December 14, 1957 he married Marjorie Schwanke in Rochester, MN. He started working as a technician in Radiology at the Mayo Clinic and later became a supervisor in Radiology at the Community Medicine - Baldwin Building. He painted houses for extra money which resulted in many wonderful summer vacations with his family. Dairy Queen was his favorite place to visit. He also enjoyed visiting the farm he grew up on, riding his motorcycle, cheering on the MN Gophers and Vikings, and especially spending time with his family and friends. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN). A private burial will follow at the Altura Hebron Cemetery in Altura, MN. Melvin is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Rochester, MN; one daughter, Gale (Donald) Heikes of Albertville, MN; two sons, Troy (Ava) Joubert of Beaverton, OR and Bruce (Corey) Stephan of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren, Ella, Claire and Grace; and one brother, Earl (Darlene) Stephan of Rochester, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Lou (Dave) Lovlien; and one brother, Gerald (Laurie) Stephan. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes is honored to be serving the Stephan family.
