May Loretta (Smart) Young, age 93, passed away from complications of congestive heart failure on January 24, 2017 at Mount Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis, MN. May was born May 5, 1923 and raised in Marquette, MI. May had six sisters, Clara, Nola, Violet, Eleanor, Goldie and Shirley and two brothers, Bob and Fred. She graduated from Gravereat High School in 1941 and afterwards worked at the Mining Journal. May and her late husband, Paul Bud Young relocated to Rochester, MN in 1958. May and Bud had three children, Beverly, Nancy and Jim. May retired in 2011 at the age of 88 from Rochester Community Technical College bookstore after 20 years of employment. Prior to RCTC, may worked at Erdmans SuperValu for 20 years and as a bank teller in the Rochester Community. She was also a nanny and known by many families as Gramma May. May would return to Marquette often to spend time with lifelong friends and family. May was a part of a long-term Alzheimers study. May was fortunate not to develop Alzheimers and hoped that her participation in the study would help doctors fine a cure or treatment. Her remains will be buried by her mothers grave this summer. May is survived by her children, Beverly Prust of St. Paul, MN, Nancy (Randy) Stevens of Lake City, MN and Jim (Trina) Young of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Jenifer Prust of St. Paul, MN, Melissa Stevens (Steve Schelkopf) of Dekalb, IL, Jessica (Shawn) Stevens of Random Lake, WI, Hadley Young (Aaron Glasheen) of Minneapolis, MN and Andrew Young of Minneapolis, MN; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew Mueller and Keegan Mueller, sons of Jessica Stevens and Ella, the daughter of Jenifer Prust. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarabell and James Smart; eight siblings; her husband, Paul Bud Young and an infant grandson, Luke Young. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes.
