Reverend Maurice "Maury" Hagen went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 20, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 10, 1943, to Maurice Edgar Hagen and Mildred (Cohrs) Hagen.
Maury grew up in Duluth, MN and graduated from Denfeld High School, Class of '61. He went on to pursue his education at Northwestern College, St. Paul, MN, University of Minnesota, Duluth and Luther Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the Christian Ministry at Bethel Lutheran, Minneapolis, MN on May 31, 1970.
He was called to serve at Good Shepherd, Rockford, IL; Zion, Buffalo Lake, MN; St. Paul Lutheran, Springfield, MN; and Grace, Luverne, MN, all ELCA churches.
Maury met his future wife, Kathryn "Kathy" Voog through good friends. God blessed the marriage allowing them to celebrate their 60th Anniversary on June 19, 2024. To this union were added 3 children, Eric, Ethan and Karna.
Maury was very civic minded and was involved with service organizations, Lions, Kiwanis and the Rotary, wherever he lived. As a Rotarian he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
He loved to sing and was given the most beautiful, clear, tenor voice. This was used, not only on Sunday mornings, but in local theater productions (when time permitted). His favorite role was "Tevye" in "Fiddler on the Roof". Other favorites were making cheese popcorn on Sunday nights, manicotti, books, investing, politics, spending time in his man cave watching old re-runs of Gun Smoke and especially family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Dale C. Hagen, sisters-in-law, Joanne Hagen and Jean Hagen.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathy, sons, Eric Hagen, Ethan (Cristina) Hagen, daughter, Reverend Dr. Karna (Brian) Moskalik, grandchildren, André Hagen Espino, Stasha Hagen Espino, Gabriel Maurice Hagen, brother, Stephen T. (Anne) Hagen, brother-in-law, James A. (Connie) Voog, plus four special nieces and many cousins.
