Maureen Ann (Flynn) Gwynn, age 76, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, Minnesota.
Maureen was born on September 8, 1948, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to parents Paul Flynn and Mary Jane "Polly" Dunn. She is the oldest of five children. Growing up, Maureen lived all over the United States and in a few different countries in Europe, including France and Germany. She attended Frankfurt American High School in Germany. Maureen met her future husband Patrick Gwynn in Darmstadt, Germany; where both he and her father were stationed in the military. On August 5, 1967, Maureen and Patrick were united in marriage in Wilmington, Delaware. For the majority of her career, she worked as an Administrative Analyst at IBM and Hitachi.
Maureen enjoyed traveling the world to places such as Greece, Turkey, Costa Rica, Ireland, China, Germany and Mexico. She loved collecting beautiful treasures from her travels. She also enjoyed cooking home cooked meals using vegetables from her garden, experimenting with new recipes, following the Frugal Gourmet, and tending to her flower garden and entertaining guests. Maureen was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and formerly Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She served at United Way and was instrumental in getting the Power of Purse fundraiser, supporting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, up and running. She also worked and volunteered as a bookkeeper and treasurer at places such as her kid's preschool and the townhome association which she belonged to.
Most importantly, Maureen was a loving Mom and Grammy and was especially proud of the musical accomplishments of her children and grandchildren after countless lessons, bands and recitals. Maureen will be missed by many.
Maureen is survived by her children, Andrea (John) Sanford of Owatonna, MN and Andrew Gwynn of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Bailey, Henry, Maisy and Josie Sanford; siblings, Mike (Jeanie) Flynn of Maysville, GA, Pat (Patti) Flynn of Walworth, WI, Tina (Roy) McHaney of Commerce, GA, and Tim (Georgette) Flynn of Williams Bay, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews across the country.
