Matthew Z. Schlenker

Matthew Z. Schlenker, 35, of Brooklyn Center, MN lost his battle with depression on August 1, 2017. Matt was born February 13, 1982 in Rochester to Gert and Janet (Ibach) Schlenker. He was a graduate of Mayo High School and went on to obtain his Bachelors degree from St. Olaf College. Matt excelled in basketball throughout high school and college. Matt was a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor. He will be forever missed. Matt is survived by his parents, Gert and Janet Schlenker of Rochester; brother, Corey (Allison) Schlenker of Rochester; his loves, Shannon Rooney and her daughter, Micah Rooney-Johnson of Brooklyn Center, MN; aunts, Mary (Ed) Tutujian, Sharon Ammerman; uncle, George (Shelly) Ibach; numerous cousins and a host of other family and friends. Matt was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 4, 2017 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
