ROTH Matthew Steven Roth, 22, of Oronoco, passed away unexpectedly in a boating accident. Matthew was born March 25, 1992 in Rochester, MN to Steven and Carolyn (Weisensel) Roth.He attended St. Johns and Holy Spirit Catholic Schools, graduating from Lourdes High School in 2010.Matt went on to Creighton University, where just this year he received Bachelor Science Degrees in Finance and in Economics. After graduating, Matt accepted a position at Union Pacific Railroad as a financial analyst in Omaha, NE.Matt planned to seek additional degrees in business and law. Matt loved his younger brothers, Nathan and Nick, and took his role as eldest very seriously. He was an avid hockey player throughout grade school and high school, playing in the state high school hockey tournament for Lourdes and captaining his team as a senior.Matt was a fun person who loved wakeboarding, golfing with his buddies, listening to country music in his old Ford truck, a good pair of cowboy boots, and playing hockey on his familys rink with his brothers and friends. As he grew up, Matt developed a very close set of friends that remain tight nit even today. While at Creighton, Matt continued to enjoy golf, adult hockey, and hanging out at the Jay.Matt quickly developed an additional set of great college friends who became integrated with his brothers and Rochester friends. Matt was a very smart person and a good athlete, but the characteristic about which we are most proud, and would like him remembered, is that he was an excellent and caring person. While we only had Matt for 22 short years, we are grateful for it because he made such a positive impact on so many people.Matt is still with us, just in a different way.His spirit lives on in all of us.We will never forget him. Matt is survived by his parents, Steve and Carol Roth of Oronoco; younger brothers, Nathan and Nicholas Roth of Oronoco; maternal grandparents, Robert and Elaine Weisensel of Sun Prairie, WI; paternal grandparents, William and Harriette of Rochester; numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins and a host of other family and friends.
