MaryJane (Rossi) Bishop, age 88, passed away on November 16, 2023, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minnesota. She was surrounded by her family.
MaryJane was born August 6, 1935, to Walter and Pauline (Stucky) Rossi on a family farm east of Berne, Minnesota with her 4 sisters. Mary Jane attended West Concord Schools graduating in 1953. While in High School, MaryJane was head majorette and the 1st Homecoming Queen for the West Concord High School.
On June 25, 1955, she married the love of her life, Clayton Bishop, at Zwingli United Church of Christ. The couple made their home in West Concord, Minnesota with their three children. She worked at Mayo Clinic for 42 years in Personal Services and Benefits as well as Recovery Claims Services.
MaryJane and Clayton enjoyed many road trips antiquing, a trip or two to the casino for some gambling fun, fishing on Deer Lake or Lake Kabetogama, but most of all, they enjoyed traveling from one city to the next to watch their children and grandchildren in various sports and other activities. MaryJane was an active member of Zwingli United Church of Christ and helped many years with the Berne Swissfest, often making dozens upon dozens of Swiss baked goods.
Survivors include her children: Jeff (Denise) Bishop, Terre Haute, IN, Joni (Al) Amundson, Chatfield, MN and Jill (Mark) Melander, Eloy, AZ. She will be fondly remembered as "Nana" by her grandchildren Alison Bentley, Katelyn (Jordan) Harrison, Adam (Emily) Amundson, and Kaia (Drake) Matuska and 5 great grandchildren: Mara, Jace, Cayden, Quinn, and Cameron. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ida Evert, and brother-in-law Jake "Robert" Bishop and many nieces and nephews.
MaryJane was proceeded in death by her parents, Walter and Pauline (Stucky) Rossi, beloved husband Clayton of 60 years and her sisters/spouses Louann (Chester) Maxson, Betty (Ken) Schacht, Marilyn (Clarence) Hedquist, and Janet (Ben) Unger. Also proceeding her were brothers and sisters-in-law: Ralph (Delma) Bishop, Wilber (Ardy) Bishop, Mary (Bill) Sorn, Harry Evert, Pat Bishop and Phyllis (Alton) Guzek.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Zwingli United Church of Christ on Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow in the church basement. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. before the service. A private family burial will be set at a later date as she has donated her body to Mayo Clinic's Anatomical Bequest Program in Rochester, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given directly to the family for distribution to MaryJane's preferred charities or to Zwingli United Church of Christ in her memory.
