Mary Ann Carlson

Mary Ann Carlson, 64, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus in Rochester. Mary Ann was born June 11, 1952 in Wyattville, MN. to Wilfred and Violet (Balk) Herold. She graduated from Winona High School and attended Winona State University in Winona. On August 25, 1973, she married Michael Carlson in Wilson, MN. The couple lived in Winona until moving to Rochester in 1978. Mary Ann provided in-home day care and worked for Shopko for thirty years. She was a member of Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rochester where she was involved with many different programs. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her grandchildren, camping, fishing, crocheting, and sewing. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Michael; her mother Violet Herold of Winona, MN.; son Greg ((JoAnn) Carlson of Eyota, MN; daughter Dawn (Mike) Sample of Rochester; sister Karen (Bill) Long of Chaska, MN; brother Lee (Sheryl) Herold of Minnesota City, MN.; and four grandchildren Daylon, Marshall, Isaiah, and Violet; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church 2207 11th Avenue SE Rochester with Reverend Brian Kom officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday September 21, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church and 1 hr prior to the service Thursday also at the church.
