Marvin Berg

Marvin Berg passed away on August 16, 2024 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN, at the age of 91 years.

Marvin Clifford Berg was born on March 2, 1933, in Rochester, MN, to parents, Clifford and Marguerette (Hampton) Berg. He grew up in Spring Valley, MN, where he attended high school.

Marvin volunteered for service in the US Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean war. Upon his return he quickly found work at IBM where he worked for 33 years until retirement.

Marvin married LaJean Ethelene Born on February 20, 1960, in Janesville, MN, and the couple raised four children together, living for a time in rural Zumbro Falls as well as the town of Mazeppa. They made their final home in Oronoco, MN.

Marvin was a man of many skills. He played the harmonica and guitar and loved to sing. He flew small aircraft as a member of the Rochester Flying Club. During his IBM career he was always active in a hobby of some kind. Those hobbies included: owning an auto salvage business, farming, owning a welding and repair shop, and running a home improvement business as well as some buying and selling. When early retirement proved too slow for him, he retained work for Republic Parking, who contracted for the City of Rochester. In his later years he enjoyed working in his wood shop, playing cribbage and golf, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Marvin was a man of strong Christian faith who enjoyed fellowship at any opportunity. His faith comforted him in his final days.

Marvin is survived by his son Michael Berg (Lori) and three daughters, Roxanne Walters (Brett Smith), Renee Clark (Wade), and Mary Amundson (Michael); 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, LaJean; his parents, Clifford and Marguerette; two sisters and one brother; and one infant great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Pl. NW, Rochester, MN 55901). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Grand Meadow, MN.
