Marjorie Wood

Marjorie Wood, age 99 and 4 months, Rochester, Minnesota passed away at her home on November 8, 2024. Marjorie (known to many as Marge) was born on 7/07/1925 in Oronoco, Minnesota to Helen (Bennett) Markham and George E. Markham. She graduated from Rochester High School.

Marjorie married Harry Gardner Wood, Jr. on January 31, 1953, and together they had two children, Ronald Dean and Sandra Kay.

She worked as a dental assistant for eight years, and later as executive secretary with the Rochester Board of Realtors and Rochester Multiple Listing Service until her retirement.

She enjoyed following local and national sports, with women's basketball being her favorite. She followed the USA Olympic, Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Gopher teams and rarely missed a televised event. She also followed and kept track of local Rochester athletes through their careers. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club friends and doing jigsaw, numeral and word puzzles to help keep her skills sharp in her later years.

She loved hearing about or attending family activities, hearing from her granddaughter and grandson; and her great-granddaughters - who called her "Great Marge".

Marjorie was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi and held many offices in this local sorority chapter. She was named Girl of the Year in 1958 and was presented with a 50- year membership award later in life.

Marjorie is survived by daughter Sandra (Paul) Goss of Lino Lakes, MN; granddaughter Amy (Joseph) Gustafson of Wyoming, MN; grandson Brett Goss (USAF active duty); 3 great-granddaughters Aayla, Ella and Liana Gustafson; sister Edith (Joe) Bowe and other maternal family members.

She was predeceased by husband Harry G. Wood, Jr.; son Ronald Dean Wood; mother Helen (Bennett) Markham; father George E. Markman; sister Irene (David) Bolles; and brother Gordon Markham.

A memorial service will be held at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home on Friday, November 29th at 2:00 pm.
