Marjorie Lieske Peacefully passed 12/25/24 in Rochester, MN. Her indomitable spirit and sharp mind lived on until the end, but her body finally gave out.
Marjorie Lieske was born 9/14/30 in Ashland, WI to Susan (Pederson) Nelson and Wellington Pederson. After graduating from Superior State Teachers College in 1952 she struck off on her own across the country to take a job as a mathematician at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. There she met Robert Lieske, and they were married 2/20/54. After the birth of her son Robert David, she retired from her first job to concentrate on being a full-time mom. After her second son John Charles was approaching graduation from high school, she returned to school earning a master's in psychology from Towson State University. She used those skills as a school psychologist in the Harford County School system for many years passionately helping students of all ages achieve their learning potential.
Marjorie was multitalented through her long and productive life. She was skilled in needlecraft and produced many amazing and intricate works that she generously shared with family and friends throughout her life. Marjorie also possessed a deep and spiritual soul and was an active member and leader at Aberdeen Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maryland for many decades. Her knowledge of the bible was extensive, and she delivered many sermons as a longtime lay minister in the church. After moving to Rochester, she was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church and at Charter House enjoyed actively partnering with the pastoral staff and leading the Spiritual Life Committee for many years. She and her husband Bob were avid travelers over many decades, and especially enjoyed multiple visits to Brussels, Paris, and the Middle Rhine River Valley.
Marjorie and Bob were fully devoted to each other for almost 57 years of a loving marriage. After his sudden death in 2011 Marjorie started a new chapter in her life, moving to The Charter House in Rochester to live in the apartment she and Bob had selected only a few months prior. Over the next 13 years she made many new friends and developed many new interests, not least of which was a knack for winning at weekly bridge. She was well known by many for her strong spirit as she traversed the Mayo subway to shop and make appointments.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother W. Edward Pederson and husband Robert Frederick Lieske. She is survived by son Robert David Lieske, his wife Debroah Lieske of Bluffton S.C; their sons Timothy Robert Lieske (wife Sarah Lieske), Andrew David Lieske (wife Christie Lieske, son Nicholas Lieske); and son John Charles Lieske, wife Paula Anne Craigo of Rochester, MN, their daughter Elizabeth Anne Lieske (partner Luke Seigars).
The family wishes to give heartful thanks to the staff at Charter House for loving support over many years.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in honor of Marjorie to St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aberdeen MD.
A memorial service will be held from 11am to 1pm on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Charter House, 211 2nd St NW, Rochester, MN.
