Marjorie Ann Rhyne, 85, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at St. Marys Hospital. Marjorie was born May 27, 1930 in Humboldt, KS to William and Georgia (Doyle) Benson. She was a 1948 graduate of Chanute High School. On June 17, 1948 Marjorie married her best friend, Jim Rhyne in Chanute, KS. Jim and Marjorie moved to Rochester in 1963. Marjorie received her Bachelors degree in education from Winona State University. Marjorie loved children and was an innovative teacherat Harriett Bishop schools for 23 years and then spent 2 years in administration for the Rochester Public school system. She was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Fraternity and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Rochester, where she was also active in the church choir for 28 years. Marjorie loved music, whether it was playing piano or singing. She enjoyed cooking, collecting various cookbooks, writing poetry, and genealogy. Marjorie loved all things beautiful but her greatest love was her husband, Jim. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Jim; daughter, Susan Rhyne; son-in-law, Ev (Marcia) Jacobson; grandchildren, Deidre (Jay) Makowski, Tyler (Sarah) Jacobson, Everett (April) Jacobson, James (Carlye) Rhyne, Luke (Amy) Laessig, Marc Laessig; great grandchildren, Emily Makowski, Susannah Jacobson, Andrew Jacobson, Juliet Jacobson, Noah Jacobson, Ysa Jacobson, Lindsey Jacobson, Moriah Jacobson, Ezra Jacobson, Everett Jacobson, Haley Rhyne, Heidi Jacobson, Noah Laessig, Violet Jacobson, Samuel Rhyne and Cosette Jacobson. Marjorie is also survived by her brother, William Benson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janie Jacobson; sisters, Helen Watson and Dorothy Sadler; brother, Albert Benson and her parents, William and Georgia. A funeral service will be held 10:30AM Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Assembly of God Church, 4240 18th Ave. NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00PM Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Jim Filbeck will be officiating with interment at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Preston.
