Marion Vaughan Henry, faithful servant, prayer warrior, dearly loved wife and mother, died on August 26, 2024 in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 76, following a battle with dementia and other health complications.
Marion was born on February 26, 1948 to Grant W. and Daphne (Cushing) Vaughan in Madison, Wisconsin. She grew up in Massillon, Ohio, the eldest of four sisters. From an early age, she had a passion for music, and earned a degree in Music Therapy at Otterbein College, followed by a degree in Organ Performance at the University of Kansas. She was a practicing music therapist for a number of years at Cleveland Music Settlement in Cleveland, OH. She desired to integrate her faith with her profession, so in 1976, she moved to Illinois and earned a Masters of Arts in Religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. It was at Trinity that she met David, her future husband. They married in 1978, and following graduation, moved to the Rochester, Minnesota area for ministry.
In addition to raising two daughters, Marion was active in worship and prayer ministries and volunteered for a variety of organizations. She was the organist at Calvary Evangelical Free Church for 34 years. She taught piano, led a backyard Bible club for neighborhood children, and was deeply involved in Moms in Touch.
Marion was known as a prayer warrior, and prayed for and with countless individuals over the years.
While dementia made things more challenging for Marion in the last year of her life, her light never faded, and she greeted friends and strangers alike with a bright smile, often bringing a laugh with her quick wit. She was well cared for by her community, especially her husband and daughter Amber, who were her constant companions and caregivers.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Brian Gross. She is survived by David, her husband of 45 years, daughters Tiffany and Amber, sisters Elaine (Ray) Griffith, Diane (Rich) Hales, and Beth Gross, and many dear nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 5500 25th Ave NW, Rochester. Her service will follow at 11:00 am at the church. The family invites you to stay for a meal following the service.
If you'd like to donate a gift in Marion's honor, the family encourages you to consider the Calvary Evangelical Free Church worship ministry or Trinity International University.
