Marion Andrea Wieland, age 88, died May 6, 2013 at Madonna Towers in Rochester, Minnesota from complications of Alzheimers disease. Andrea was born December 5, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Alexander Robertson Walsh and Sigrid Amundson Walsh.She attended school in New Ulm, Minnesota and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and later received a teaching degree from Macalester College.She married Raymond Wieland in 1946, and they later divorced. Andy Wieland, as she was better known, was a busy lady:she was a cheerful, creative and enthusiastic kindergarten teacher in the Rochester School District for nearly 30 years, ran a bed and breakfast in her home to raise funds for P.E.O. charities, organized and managed a camp for disabled youth for Camp Courage, was a member of two bridge clubs for over 50 years, all while raising three children.She received the Mayors Medal of Honor for Community Artistic and Cultural Achievements in 1991. She will be remembered by many for her sense of humor and good cheer, and her willingness to volunteer and help people. Andy loved to sing:she envisioned a life as an operatic soprano, and performed solo recitals well into her sixties.She sang in the Rochester Symphony Chorale for over 50 years, in the Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church, and was a founding member of the Robert Oudal Chorale.Andy served on the organ committee at First Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in the installation of a new organ in 1998. Andrea is survived by daughter, Barbara Wieland of Los Angeles, California;son, Mark (Kim Lehman) Wieland of Austin, Texas; daughter, Heidi (William) Oehler of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Rebecca (Paul) Stever of Plymouth, Minnesota and Lucy Oehler of Aitkin, Minnesota; and many dear friends and relatives, including members of her bridge club, P.E.O, Priscilla Circle, and recent granddaughter, Holly Wang.She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 516 3rd St SW in Rochester, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.A reception will follow the service at the church.
