Margaret Martin

Margaret Martin, 91, of Rochester passed away peacefully at Willows and Waters Senior Living, on Saturday, February 2, 2013. She was born March 21, 1921, in Fountain, MN to Minnie and Oscar Spelhaug. She graduated from Preston High School and then attended Winona and Superior State Teacher's College's. She taught school in Fountain, MN six years prior to her marriage. On December 2, 1945, she married Morris Martin. They moved to Rochester where she was a substitute teacher for several years and later employed at Mayo Clinic where she worked for 21 years before she retired in 1983. After retiring, she and Morrie spent the winters in Arizona where they spent time with their son and his family and their many Minnesota snowbird friends. They enjoyed camping with their many friends in the summers on Lake Zumbro. They had 44 wonderful years together before his death in July, 1990. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to travel, play bridge, entertain in her home, and spend time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit. She was a member of the Zumbro Lutheran Senior Fellowship, the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary, and Mayo Friendship Club. She was an active member of Zumbro Lutheran Church for over 66 years and had a deep faith. She also did volunteer work at the Rochester Methodist Hospital. She is survived by a daughter, Nancee (Dana) Treadwell of Rochester, and a son, Steve (Sharon) Martin of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren, Chris Silker, Kara Martin, Trey Martin, Anthony Treadwell and Angela Majerus, two great-granddaughters, Aya Treadwell and Ramsey Majerus and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morrie, two brothers and two sisters. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the loving care their Mother received from the owner and staff of the Willows and Waters Senior Living home and also Seasons Hospice. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 8, 2013 at Zumbro Lutheran Church, 624 3rd Ave SW, Rochester, with the Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.Entombment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, 1696 Greenview Dr. SW Rochester, MN 55902 or to Zumbro Lutheran Church.
