Malba P. Haack, age 88, of Rochester, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester. She was born on December 21, 1927, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Gaustad) Bondeson. She attended school in Sacred Heart, Marshall, and graduated from high school in Wabasha, Minnesota. She was the daughter of a baker and her parents owned bakeries in these towns and in Chatfield. This is how Malba got her start in the bakery business. She married Daryl H. Haack, on June 19, 1948, in Chatfield. Together they purchased their first bakery in Graceville, Minnesota in 1948. In 1951 the couple purchased the Spring Valley Bakery. She worked in the bakery in Spring Valley until 1976 when the couple was divorced. Malba moved from Spring Valley to Rochester and started a new career in 1976 as a sales associate at Montgomery Wards. She retired from Montgomery Wards in 1998. She had a love for clothes and waiting on customers. She took pride in ownership of her own home in Rochester where she resided until the age of 83 when she moved to Cottagewood. She had endless love and would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, trips with her daughter Diane, and taking care of her grandchildren. Malba is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Brenda Haack of Spring Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Capelle of Rochester; grandchildren, Danielle (Troy) Harwood, Shawn (Nicole) Capelle, Brandon (Stephanie) Capelle, and Brooke Capelle; great-grandchildren, Alexys, Ashlyn, and Brantley Harwood and Lucas Capelle; sisters, Norma (Bernie) Gaffron and Harriet (Don) Herrick; sister-in-law Beverly Huneke; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home with the Reverend Floyd OBryan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Chatfield Cemetery following the service.
