Lynn Zaiken

December 2, 1923 — February 12, 2018

Lynn Zaiken - Rochester, Minnesota (formerly of Chicago, Illinois) Lynn Zaiken, 94, died peacefully at Seasons Hospice surrounded by her immediate family on Monday, February 12, 2018. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Ben Zaiken. Born on December 12, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, to Meyer & Annie Davis, Lynn was a 1st generation American. A child of the depression, she graduated from Manley High School at the age of 12 in 1935. She married Ben Zaiken on November 4, 1951 and they enjoyed a long marriage filled with many good times, travels, and colorful arguments. In the 1970s, she started her own market research company called Time 'N Talent in spite of the many obstacles that were placed in her way because of her gender. A loving Grandmother, Lynn Zaiken lived in Chicago for most of life until she moved to Rochester in 2007. She was a quintessential "Chicago Girl" who loved the cosmopolitan lifestyle. She enjoyed sharing the cultural institutions of her city with her grandchildren. She loved attending the Chicago Symphony & the theatre as well as dining at gourmet restaurants. An avid reader, she deeply followed politics all her life, especially in her later years. Lynn is survived by her three sons: David P. Zaiken (with whom she lost contact), Kenneth A. (Mary) Zaiken of Rochester, MN, & Eliot J. (Meredith) Zaiken of Covington, GA; her eight grandchildren: Heather, Lyndi (Ryen), Amanda (Jamie), Beth (Mark), Brenley, Jessica (Richard), Zachary, and Michael (Claire); her four great-grandchildren: Kyla, Avalene, Flynn, & Madeline; her nephew Howard (Linda); and her niece Carol. On Thursday February 15th, a private gathering for family & close friends will begin at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home followed by a graveside service officiated by Rabbi Michelle Werner. A visitation will follow at the home of Mary & Ken Zaiken, 1704 11th St. SW, Rochester, Minnesota starting at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Seasons Hospice House, https://www.seasonshospice.org/, Elder Network, http://www.elder-network.org/, or Jewish United Fund, https://www.juf.org/.
