Lyle J. Carstensen, age 85, of Salem, Minnesota passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 16, 2021. Lyle John Carstensen was born on the family farm in Salem on October 12, 1935 the son of Nels and Effie (Holt) Carstensen. He attended country school in Salem and Byron public school. After his schooling he farmed and did concrete work. He was united in marriage to Ruth Lieber on May 15, 1965 in Nashua, Iowa and made their home in Salem. Lyle worked for St. Mary's in the laundry department then for Mayo Clinic as a custodian and at the time of retirement worked for the radiology department. Lyle found great pleasure in being able to help others. He enjoyed family outings and adventures. He loved being able to fix, tinker or repurpose anything he could and along with attending auctions. He attended Mount Sion Lutheran Church in Kasson. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carstensen of Salem, MN; children, Terry (Brenda) Carstensen of Kasson, MN and Teresa Carstensen of Byron, MN; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Paul) Myers of Milford, OH, Katherine Carstensen of Fargo, ND, Joshua Carstensen of Austin, MN, Zachary Carstensen of Kasson, MN, MacKenzie, Elsa and Dionna Amoako of St. Michael, MN; one great granddaughter, Juliette Myers; brother, Clayton (Darlene) Carstensen of Crosby, MN; many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammy Amoako; four siblings and their spouses, Paul (Ione) Carstensen, Russell Carstensen, Clinton (Darlene) Carstensen and Edna (Don) Fenn. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2021 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN with Reverend Mark Olson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in East St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Dell Township, MN.
