Lydia A. DeYoung, 89, of Rochester, MN died on September 17, 2018, at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. She was born on January 31, 1929, in Eastgate, Alberta, Canada to Peter and Nadia (Presezniuk) Horbatiuk. Lydia married Donald DeYoung on February 7, 1946, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and they moved to Minnesota in 1946, and she became a United States citizen in 1948. Lydia worked as a claims manager for Hirman Insurance for many years. She enjoyed reading, needlework, traveling and volunteering. Survivors include two sons, Timothy (Pam) of New York City, NY and Lynn (Carolyn) of Helena, MT; two daughters, Patricia (Ken) Nuss of Byron, MN and Jan (Michael) Haney of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, sister, and her life-long friend, Irene. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth, 24 8th Street NW, Rochester MN 55901, with a visitation one hour prior. The inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, Samaritan Bethany Home or Salvation Army.
