Lucretia Hazel (Pike) Eggenberger, 101, of Rochester, formerly of Downers Grove, Ill., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at Madonna Towers of natural causes. Lucretia was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Campbellsville, Ky., to Clara (McQuese) and Alvin Pike. She graduated from Taylor County High School in Kentucky in 1930. On Dec. 22, 1935, Lucretia married Delbert Norgaard Eggenberger of Emington, Ill. During World War II she worked in a war plant in Chicago. Delbert was a theoretical physicist at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago. He passed away in 1981. Lucretia lived in Illinois until 2007 when she moved to Rochester. Lucretia loved gardening, especially flowers, doing crafts, and doting on her grandchildren. She was a life-long Baptist, very religious, a life-long Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She is survived by her children, Beverly Jeanne (Al) Maybach of North Kingston, R.I.; Howard Pike (Faye) Eggenberger of Rochester and Stephan Raymond (Jan) Eggenberger of Somers, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place N.W., Rochester. Funeral service and burial will be held at the family grave-site in Illinois at a later date.
