Lucille Reinalda, of Rochester, was welcomed home to her Fathers house in heaven on Wednesday, June 11th, 2014 at the age of 86. Lucille Audrey Hermann was born at her familys farm in South Troy, Minnesota on July 18th, 1927. She was the second of 6 children born to Alfred William and Ethel Mae (Pencille) Hermann.During her school years at Coffman High School she learned to play the violin. One of her fondest memories was playing a solo at church. Upon graduation in 1945 she attended St. Charles Teachers Training. Her first teaching job was in a one room schoolhouse in Marion. On June 22nd, 1948 at Lake Koronis Bible Camp, Lucille met Raymond Reinalda. The two were married one year later at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Rochester. After their honeymoon they moved to a farm in Worthington, Minnesota and one year later they welcomed the first of their six children. The family moved around Southeastern Minnesota finally settling in Rochester in 1964. Lucille had a love for teaching, especially young children. During the years of raising her children she did daycare out of the home. Upon the move to Rochester she taught at Civic League Day Nursery and for a several years was the director of Meadow Park Day Care Center before she started T.L.C Daycare in 1976. In 1979 she sold the daycare and ventured into the retail world, opening a gift shop, located across from St. Marys Hospital, called Gift N Thrift. The store sold gifts and craft items but was also a place of comfort for the families and friends of hospital patients. Many friendships were formed during those years. In the early 1980s Lucille and her daughter-in-law Lori compiled a cookbook, which also had pictures and snippets of the citys history in it, called Recipes and Remembrances of Rochester. The book was dedicated to the many people she met during her years as shop owner. In December of 1986 the shop was sold and Lucile entered into retirement, exploring her creative side making crafts she sold at flea markets, wintering in Florida and cleaning houses. While she rarely wanted to slow down, her retirement allowed her time for her favorite past time- making memories with her family and friends. Lucille is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Raymond Reinalda; six children Judith Reinalda of Rochester, Barbara Mohler of Rochester, Janet Kauphusman of Rochester, Kenneth (Terri) Reinalda of Florida, Ronald (Lori) Reinalda of Rochester and Linda (Dan) Gunderson; 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine (Russell) Friese, and Lorraine Deedrick, both of Rochester; and dear friend Molly Sheridan.
