Lorraine E. Cordes

Lorraine Elizabeth Cordes, 95, of Pine Island, formerly of Byron, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. Lorraine was born July 22, 1918 in Eyota, MN to William and Lydia (Dubbels) Ihrke. On November 20, 1942 in Eyota, Lorraine married Vernoid Cordes. Lorraine was a charter member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Byron where she was very active in the church, particularly the ladies aid. She and her husband Vernoid farmed in rural Byron until they moved into Byron in 1983. Lorraine was a homemaker that enjoyed cooking, making homemade bread and jam, crocheting and traveling. Above all, Lorraine loved making memories with her children and grandchildren. Lorraine is survived by her children, Ronald Cordes of Bloomington, MN, Wayne (Judy) Cordes of Papillion, NE., Merlin (Carol) Cordes of Homer, AK., Alton (Deb) Cordes of Byron, MN., Lynette (Mark) Johnson of Winona, MN; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandchild; brother, Don (Geraldine) Ihrke of St. Charles; sister, Gladys Loucks of Stewartville; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lydia; husband, Vernoid; brothers, Wilmer, Albert, Elmer, Freddie, Leland, and Harold Ihrke and sisters, Ruth Schmidt, Isabell Rossin, and Inez Hammel. A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, November 1, 2013 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Haven Care Center, Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Byron or to the charity of donor's choice.
