Lois P. Schurman, age 91, of Rochester, MN died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Madonna Towers. Lois Pearl Van Polen was born on December 31, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Cornelius and Annabelle (Sim) Van Polen. She attended grade school at Grosspoint Christian School in Detroit, MI and Maine East High School in Park Ridge, IL. She graduated from Chicago Christian High School in Chicago, IL. She furthered her education at Mosier Business College in Chicago, IL. Lois made public profession of her faith on April 1, 1945 in the Des Plaines Christian Reformed Church. On November 29, 1946 she married Henry Schurman at the Des Plaines Christian Reformed Church in Des Plaines, IL. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church. She faithfully attended and was an active member in Des Plaines, IL and Grand Haven, MI. For many years Lois worked at Nearly New, a thrift shop that benefited the Christian school in Grand Haven. She attended Autumn Ridge Church when she and her husband, Henry moved to Rochester, MN in 2003. Due to severe hearing loss, she appreciated Reverend C. John Steer as pastor so much, because she was able to hear and understand his messages. When living in the Chicago area and in Rochester, she enjoyed the daily newspaper. She would read it cover to cover and even cut out articles that she thought her family would enjoy. Her primary interests were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lois enjoyed reading and was always working on a cross word puzzle. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. She was also an avid baker, especially pies. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lois is survived by her children, Diane (Ronald) Schaap of Rochester, MN and Robert (Paula) Schurman on New Lenox, IL; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Sawyer, Emily (James) Hilleman, Kathleen (Travis) Yager, Jacob (fiancé, Shannon) Schurman, Abigail (Adam) Barr and Nicholas Schurman and nine great grandchildren, Colin and Morgan Sawyer, Audrey and Jenna Hilleman, Elise, Ian and Maisie Yager and Everly and Mila Barr. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Autumn Ridge Church Timothy Chapel (3611 Salem Road SW Rochester, MN) on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN) on Friday, June 7, 2019 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will take place at Oronoco Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Schaap Family Foundation P.O.
