Lester Griebenow

Lester M. Griebenow, age 90, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on March 19, 1933 in Rochester, Minnesota and was the third of four children to Erwin A. Griebenow and Elsa (Beilke) Griebenow. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. He then joined the Army and served proudly in the Korean War. After his military service, Lester returned to Rochester and married his childhood sweetheart from elementary school. Lester and Geraldine Meyers were married in 1957, and together they raised three children and hosted many visiting college students from all over the world into their home.

Lester spent 25 years in Rochester working for IBM where he started in the Tool Room and over the years moved to Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement Engineering. After leaving IBM, Lester continued as a Manufacturing Engineer with Lake Center Industries (TRW) in Winona. Lester retired from Morrice Moldings (Strongwell) in Chatfield as Manager of Design Engineering. Lester was an Engineer through and through.

Lester is a lifelong member of Korean War Veterans Club, VFW, and American Legion. While in the Korean War Veterans Club, Lester served as Commander, Executive Officer and proudly served in the Color Guard unit.

Lester is survived by his children Michelle (Gary) Collopy, David (Ruth) Griebenow, Leslie (Bob) Brink, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and Isazz (Khadija) Adam family and many friends.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Seasons Hospice House for their wonderful care of us and our beloved parents over the last few months.

A committal service for both of our parents, Lester and Geraldine will be held at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Preston at a later date.
