Leonard Keith Tlougan was called to his heavenly home by the grace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 8, 2016 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. He died peacefully and was surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born December 21, 1929, in Viola Township, MN, to Alfred and Florence (Kramer) Tlougan. He was baptized January 5, 1930 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota and confirmed May 6, 1945 at The Church of St. John the Evangelist in Rochester. Leonard grew up on a rural family farm and attended a one-room country school in Haverhill township. As a young adult he gained his carpentry apprenticeship and worked his entire adult life as a gifted craftsman in residential remodeling and new home construction. On December 23, 1951 Leonard was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice Parker in Rochester, MN. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Jean, Jenifer, and Jayne. He proudly served in the Headquarter Company 1st Batallion 14th Armored Calvary APO46 during the Korean War from 1951-1953, stationed in Fulda, Germany as part of the post-WWII normalization effort. Leonard enjoyed listening and dancing to traditional country and polka music, hunting in Whitewater, Wyoming, Montana, and Canada, taking long walks, watching MN Twins baseball, and spending time with family. He took great pride in building sincere relationships with his customers throughout the years, with an interest in providing genuine craftsmanship on countless remodeling projects. Leonard shared his love of construction, especially with his sons-in-law and grandchildren, passing along many skills of the trade that will always be remembered and cherished. He is affectionately remembered for his great sense of humor. During his later years in life Leonard enjoyed simple pleasures such as taking drives in the Minnesota countryside with his wife and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved and treasured dearly. He will be deeply missed. Leonard was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Korean Veterans Club.
