Leonard Giesler

Leonard M. Giesler, 71, of Rochester died peacefully with family surrounding him after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's and Parkinson's dementia, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Rochester East Heath Care Center. Leonard was born October 21, 1946 in Dodge Center, MN to Grove and Louise (Johnson) Giesler. Leonard was raised in Dodge Center and graduated from high school in 1965 and graduated in 1967 from Rochester Junior College as an electronic technician. Leonard married Opel Conrath in Dodge Center on August 9, 1969. He had a 30 years career at IBM and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Autumn Ridge Church. Leonard enjoyed fishing, jigsaw puzzles and being the best grandfather to his granddaughter, Kamila. He was a kind, gentle, thoughtful and considerate man. Above all, Leonard was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Opel; son, Curtis Giesler of Rochester; daughter, Ahmi Griffith-Flores of Brooklyn Center, MN; granddaughter, Kamila of Brooklyn Center, MN; brothers, Clifford (Darlene) Giesler of San Diego, CA and LeRoy (Karen) Giesler of St. Peter, MN; sister-in-law, Patricia Giesler of Morristown, MN; brothers-in-law, Terry Lammers of Owatonna, MN and Don Lee of Claremont, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Leonard was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Lou Lee, Julie Lammers; brother, Glen Giesler and his parents, Grove and Louise. The family wishes to thank the staff at Rochester East Heath Care Center, Heartland Hospice, many friends, families and their church family for the wonderful care and always being there when needed. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, with Pastor Karen Foster officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment will be held privately at Oakwood Cemetery.
