Leo Ilmar Kupp

ROCHESTER:Leo Kupp, PH.D D.D.S., 56, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Saint Marys Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 15, 1956 to Karin and Ilmar Kupp.He grew up in Ohio.He graduated from Normandy High School.He obtained a B.S. degree in Philosophy and a D.D.S. degree from the Ohio State University and went on to specialize in Periodontics at Virginia Common Wealth University.He also obtained a PH.D. in microbiology and Immunology.He taught at the Ohio State University and the University of Kentucky.He then worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in their Dental Clinic. Leo then went to work with the Dental Specialists Group up in the Twin Cities until his death.Leo married Cheryl Skowronsky in 1980; they shared the past 31 years together.Leo had a passion for the outdoors and music.He was always humming or singing.He also was in the United States Army for 3 years. Leo is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his sister, Lea Junkers; half brother, Lembit (Theresa) Hiidel; his many in-laws; his nieces; nephews; and dear friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ilmar and Karin Kupp; his step mother, Natalie Kupp; and his brother, Olev.
