Lawrence Robitschek

February 26, 1929 — December 15, 2024

Larry Robitschek passed away at home on December 15, 2024, surrounded by family, at age 95.

Larry was born in Chicago to Harry Robitschek and Catherine Stichter. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Glenn, and his sister, Jeanne.

After high school, Larry proudly joined the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty, including in post-war Japan. Between them, he attended broadcasting school in Chicago. He began his broadcasting career at radio stations in Kansas, Illinois, and Winona, ultimately landing at KROC in Rochester in 1954. Known as "Larry Roberts," he was a radio announcer. In the early 1960's, he also hosted the Three Stooges Clubhouse, a children's TV show, in the role of "Uncle Larry the Streetsweeper." Larry joined the Rochester postal service in 1963 and was a beloved mail carrier until his retirement in 1989.

In 1952 Larry married Barbara Cerovski. They raised their three children in Rochester-Rex (Annie), of Prior Lake, Minnesota; Lauren Greene (John), of Madison, Wisconsin; and Christine, of Lubbock, Texas. He has three grandchildren-Taylor Greene (Diana Pastrana), of Madison, Wisconsin; Will Greene (Diana Marques), of Chicago; and Naomi Robitschek, of Prior Lake, Minnesota.

In 1977, Larry married his soulmate, LaVonne (Tews). For the rest of his life, he and LaVonne were inseparable, and had many good times and adventures together. This included many cruises with friends and Chicago family, happy times with the Traverski ski club, league bowling, golfing and casino trips. They had a wonderful life together.

Larry was a unique character. He was perpetually cheerful, friendly, upbeat and fun-loving, and saw the good in everyone. Larry's quick smile and good humor naturally drew people to him, and he was loved by many.

The family is deeply grateful to Mayo Hospice for their care of Larry, especially nurses JoLynn and Nicole. A private family burial is planned.

Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Robitschek family.
