Lawrence Jorgenson

KASSON -Lawrence Jorgenson, 92, died on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center. Lawrence was born at the family farm southwest of Mantorville on September 18, 1920 to Harry and Blanch (Olive) Jorgenson.The family lived there until approximately 1933 when Harry purchased the farm east of Kasson which is still family operated today.Lawrence completed country school through the 8th grade and then started working on the family farm. For many years he raised beef cattle along with corn, soybeans, hay, and oats.He also worked for Byron Elevator for several years as a fertilizer applicator.Lawrence loved farming and was able to continue working until he was almost 90 years old. Lawrence married Betty Benedix on June 4, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Kasson.They were married in a double wedding with Betty's sister Sally (Aubrey) Quakenbush. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Kasson throughout his life.Lawrence served as a Trustee and was involved in the building program which was instrumental in the building of the new church building and parsonage.He was also an active supporter of Bass Lake Church Camp in Winnebago, MN.Lawrence and Betty enjoyed traveling to a cabin in Northern MN for a few weeks for many summers.They were able to spend several winters in Florida or Arizona.They enjoyed having company stop by for coffee or visiting with friends and family. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; two sons, Brian (Bonnie) Jorgenson, of Kasson, and Scott (Jerianne) Jorgenson, of Kasson; four grandchildren, Teresa (Todd Bahr), Jeremy Jorgenson, Nichole Jorgenson, and Lucas Jorgenson; two great grandchildren, Zephyr and Gavin Bahr; siblings, Pearl (LeRoy) Witzel, of Kasson, Leonard (Mary) Jorgenson, of Kasson, Shirley Jorgenson, of Kasson, and Donna Jorgenson, of Kasson; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Jorgenson. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Mary; a sister, Minnie and a brother, Lester. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 304 4th Street NW, Kasson with Rev. Dale Phelps officiating.Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at First Baptist Church and also an hour prior to the service at the church.Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be directed to First Baptist Church or Bass Lake Church Camp in Winnebago, MN.
