Laverne F. Orwoll passed away on Wednesday Feb 21, 2018 in Rochester, MN. Laverne was born on Sept 12, 1931 in Chicago Illinois to Arthur and Myrtle (Karnuth) Flentie. Laverne grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois where she enjoyed roller skating in her neighborhood and rescuing stray animals. She graduated as co-valedictorian from Maine Township High School. She attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN for two years and finished her degree at the University of Minnesota. She began teaching elementary school before becoming a mother. She married Gregg S. K. Orwoll on Sept 15, 1951. The couple began their married life in Minneapolis and moved to Rochester on July 4, 1960. Laverne was a devoted mother to their five children. Laverne was an active volunteer for many organizations including the YWCA, Minnesota News Council, Rochester Better Chance, Zumbro Lutheran Church, MN Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and political work, including serving as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. They enjoyed time at their cabin on Bay Lake. Laverne is survived by children Kimball (Kathy), Kent (Linda), Vikki (Scott) Dalquist, Tristen (Steve) Lindemann, and Erik (Susan); five grandchildren: Kaitlyn (John) Lawrey, Caroline Orwoll, Gianna and Max Lindemann, and Samantha Orwoll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregg, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vivikka Mason and Luther Mason, and their children, Tadd and Kristy. Memorials are suggested to Zumbro Lutheran Church, Bay Lake Improvement Association, or the University of Minnesota Rochester. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Zumbro Lutheran Church 624 3rd Ave. SW Rochester. Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p,m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN and 1 hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
