Larry Weringa, age 76, punched the timecard for his last shift on March 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life full of hard work, love, and just the right amount of stubbornness to keep things interesting.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Larry served his country with dedication-though he probably would have preferred if the Navy had let him run things his way. On June 20, 1970, he married the love of his life, Mary Asmus, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and more dad jokes than his daughters would care to admit.
Larry was a devoted father to Teresa Johnson and Kerry (Jay Overson) and a loving grandfather to Zach Johnson, Maddie Johnson, Logan Quinn (Sharon Arett), and Jaden Overson. His family was his greatest joy, even if they occasionally tested his patience-something he handled with a well-timed sigh and a shake of the head.
Throughout his career, Larry worked as a chief boiler operator at AMPI and later in customer service at Fleet Farm. While some may have initially found him a bit intimidating, they quickly realized he was just a big teddy bear-one who wasn't afraid to give you a hard time before offering to help.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and a treasure trove of stories that his family will continue telling (and undoubtedly embellishing) for years to come. While he has now joined his parents, sister Rita (Jay Davis), and brothers Dennis (Beth) Weringa and Roger Weringa in heaven, his brothers Ron Weringa and Craig Weringa are still holding down the fort here on Earth-probably wondering what kind of heavenly mischief Larry is already getting into.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Ranfranz & Vine Remebrance and Reception Centre, 5482 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN.
