ROCHESTER, MINN:Larry D. Boyken, 79, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. Larry Delano Boyken was born May 7, 1933 to Eilert and Hebe (Boeckholt) Boyken in rural Titonka, IA.He attended school in Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School in 1951. Larry served in the Army from 1953-55 in Korea and Japan. He attended Mankato State University from 1955-59 and graduated in 1959. Larry worked for Retail Credit Company from June 1959 until May of 1961; and American Family Insurance as an Adjuster from May 1961 until May 1996.Larry was active in youth sports, coached youth baseball and basketball for several years and was on the board of directors for basketball. He enjoyed sports, golf, reading and travel. Larry married Darlene Schwier on March 4, 1967 and they are members of Bethel Lutheran Church. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife Darlene, Rochester, MN; his daughter Jennifer Becker, Rochester, MN and his son Steven (Christine) Boyken, Byron, MN; his three grandsons Ryan, Brady, Tyler Boyken, Byron, MN; his sister Ruth (Hans) Titonka, IA, and his brother Ronald Boyken, Titonka, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harry. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Norman Wahl officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic for Polycystic Kidney Disease Research.
