LaJean Berg, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Oronoco on July 18th following a brief illness. She was surrounded and cared for by her loving family. LaJean Ethelene was the daughter of Arthur Emil Born and Ethelina Gertrude (Manthey) Born of Janesville, Minnesota. She was born on February 25, 1940, and was a graduate of Janesville High School. She attended Humboldt Airline School in Minneapolis. She married Marvin Clifford Berg on February 20, 1960, in Janesville. Over the years they lived in various locations across southeastern Minnesota. LaJeans favorite home was on a hobby farm in rural Zumbro Falls. She was one of the founding members of a local Christian Womens Club in Mazeppa, which continued on for many years, and she opened her home for many friendship Bible studies and prayer coffees. LaJean worked as a nursing assistant in the newborn nursery at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, and later she was employed as a hostess in Guest Accommodations at Mayo Clinic. At the time of her retirement she was working at Charter House. Marvin and LaJean moved to Oronoco in 1996 to be near their children and grandchildren. Over the years many grandchildren have walked down the street in the early mornings to join Grandma Berg for daily prayer time. LaJean usually had breakfast with her Quaker Parakeet, Pierre, who loved her and called her Grandma. She shared her recliner with Digger the Chihuahua, who will miss her very much. During the final years of her life, LaJeans activities were limited by severe arthritis, but she never allowed that to take away her joy of living. She was well-known for making wonderful home-cooked meals, and she enjoyed sewing many adorable doll clothes for her great grandchildren.She loved to be taken for long car rides on country roads to appreciate the beautiful scenery, and she always enjoyed having popcorn and a movie with family. LaJean is survived by her husband, Marvin Berg of Oronoco; four children, Roxanne Walters Smith (Brett Smith) of Bellechester, Renee Clark (Wade) of Rochester, Michael Berg (Lori) of Oronoco, Mary Amundson (Michael) of Oronoco; a son-in- law James Walters of Oronoco; 15 grandchildren (with one more on the way) and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and is survived by one sister, LouAnn Wiebke of Rochester. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church (5905 Silas Dent Road NW) in Rochester. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Grand Meadow, MN.
