Kristy Louise Olsen Juergens unexpectedly passed away on June 12, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.She was born August 31, 1925, in Mankato, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence T. Olsen and Christiane (Kitty) Strand Olsen.She attended St. Peter, MN public schools from which she graduated in 1943.Kristy attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN from 1943 to 1944 then transferred to the University of Minnesota where she majored in public health nursing.She received B.N. and B.S. degrees as well as an R.N. and a certificate of public health from the graduate school of public health at the U of M in 1948. On September 2, 1948 she married the love of her life, John Louis Juergens of Belle Plaine, MN.The couple moved to Rochester in 1953 where they continued to reside.Together they raised four daughters:Carol Juergens of Kodiak, AK (Mark Withrow), Ann Juergens of St. Paul, MN (Jay Weiner), Kristy Ellen Juergens Arend of Rochester, MN, and Laura Juergens Sullivan also of Rochester. As a busy and beloved wife and mother, she somehow found time to serve on the Civic League Board from 1958 to 1966, including becoming its president.During her tenure, Kristy served on the committees that initiated the Homemaker Service of Rochester and founded the Family Consultation Center which eventually became Family Service Rochester and now provides a wide range of human services.In 1966 Kristy began teaching at the newly organized school of nursing at Rochester Community College, where she taught for 13 years. She was known especially for her caring and insightful heart and her steadfast spirit. Kristy was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother Karl Olsen.She is survived by her husband of 62 years, her daughters & sons-in-law and nine grandchildren who will miss their grandmother deeplyJack, Annie, Ryan, Andrew, Henry, Nate, Casey, Kayla, and Karly. A memorial service to remember and honor Kristy will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Charter House.A private inurnment will take place at Zumbro Lutheran Church columbarium.Those who wish may honor Kristys memory with a donation to the charity of their choice.
