Kristine (Kit) Lee Seltman, 69 of Rochester died August 29, 2013 after a 4-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Kristine was born November 7, 1943 in Saskatoon, SK. She was the daughter of Dr. C.H.J Swanson and Eleanor Abbey Swanson. Following discharge from the US Navy after WWII, Dr. Swanson established his dental practice in Deephaven, MN. Kit enjoyed an idyllic childhood in the semi-rural Lake Minnetonka communities of the late 1940s and 1950s. She graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, MN and then attended Union College, Lincoln, NE where she studied science and mathematics, graduating in 1965. In the following year she completed training in medical technology at Washington Adventist Hospital in Maryland. In 1965, she married Kent D. Seltman in Wayzata, MN. They lived in Takoma Park, MD, and Angwin, CA in the Napa Valley of Northern CA, as well as Orlando, FL, and Redlands, CA before moving to Rochester in 1992. Kits 43-year career as a medical technologist involved work in clinics and hospitals in each community where she lived. She retired from Mayo Clinic in 2009 after 15-years in the transfusion medicine laboratories. Kits most rewarding work came as mother of two daughters and grandmother of five grandchildren. She was a loving and loved guide, teacher and friend to each. She shared her love of music with the members of her family as well as the church congregations where she worshiped. Kit was an accomplished pianist who played for pleasure most days throughout her life. Kit was a choir musician in several large churches and sang for 13 years with the Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. Kit is survived by Kent, her husband of 48 years; two daughters, Lee Robyn Seltman of Arlington, VA, and Ann Kristine Seltman, MD, of Minneapolis; granddaughters Hannah and Abbey Shumsky of Arlington, VA, and grandchildren Ian, Maya, and Luke Rizvi of Minneapolis; and her sister Kathleen Taylor of Angwin, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Kits life will be celebrated in a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14 in the Lourdes Chapel at Assisi Heights, 1001 14th St NW, Rochester, MN. Following the memorial service, guests are invited to meet with Kits family and friends at a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the Rochester Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1100 37th St NW, Rochester, MN. Burial will be a private family event. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Union College in support of Our Promising Future: The Campaign for Science and Mathematics.
