Kham Thunngern died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at her home in Rochester. Mrs. Thunngern was born June 15, 1928 in Xaignabouri, Laos.She fled Laos with her family in 1975 to escape war and eventually resettled in Rochester in 1990.Mrs. Thunngern enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.She especially looked forward to going on walks with her daughter and going to parks for picnics.Mrs. Thunngern was a talented seamstress, and she continued to thread her own needles and do mending for the family even after losing her eyesight. She is survived by a daughter, Kab (Tony) Kunthawong of Rochester; a son, Loot Thunngern of Xaignabouri, Laos; three grandchildren, Andy Kunthawong of Rochester, Somsak Kunthawong of Rochester, and Sompohn (Dameon) Gordon of Houston, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Yasamine & Jahzara Gordon of Houston, TX.She was preceded in death by her husband, Thong Thunngern, whom she lost in a refugee camp in Thailand; and her son Baum Thunngern, whom she lost in the war in Laos. A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery.Pastor Ron Buzard will be officiating.
