Kevin Jon Hovey, 58, from Rochester passed away peacefully at his home from a hard fought 4-year battle with prostate cancer. Kevin was born on August 1, 1957 to Phil and Irene (Distad) Hovey of Byron. He graduated from Byron High School in 1975. Kevin worked for many years as a roofer for Alpek Sheet Metal and Roofing, a job in which he took great pride in. Kevin then moved on to Carson Pirie Scott department store as a receiving dock manager. It was at Carsons where he met many of his best friends. More recently, Kevin worked for Viking Electric Supply. Kevin loved his job and was heartbroken when his illness would no longer allow him to work. He considered everyone at Viking his family. Kevins happiness was found in vacations to the north shore of Minnesota, trips to Wisconsin Dells and long drives on lazy Sundays. He was the Minnesota Vikings #1 fan. He dreamed of seeing the new stadium and would never miss a game day. The highlight of Kevins year was attending a game this fall with front row tickets. Kevin was deeply loved by all that had the blessing of having him in their lives. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Left to miss him are his Daughter, Sarah (Jesse) Gilberto of Mankato; life companion, Jane Keehn of Rochester; Carol Keehn of Rochester; Sister, Betty (Dan) Ramthun of Goodhue; Sister Bonnie (Maynard) Christenson of Rochester; Brother, Ken (Linda) Hovey of Byron and many beloved nieces and nephews. Kevin will also be deeply missed by his best friend and loyal companion, his dog, Punkin. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. A special thank you to Mayo Clinic, Dr. Henry Pitot, Dr. Eugene Kwon, Candace Dalpiaz APRN, C.N.P., the Clinical Assistants that helped with scheduling Kevins appointments and Mayo Clinic Hospice for all their care and support. Celebration of life service will be held on Monday, February 15th from 5-7pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester.
