Kenneth Weatherly

May 31, 1938 — February 3, 2020

Kenneth Henry Weatherly, 81 of Spring Grove, Minnesota passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 after a life decision to end pain and suffering. He was "pacemaker dependent" and requested that this device be turned off. He died shortly thereafter quietly and peaceably surrounded by his Spring Grove friends. Ken was born May 31, 1938 in Rochester, Minnesota. He was also baptized and confirmed as a Methodist in Rochester. His education was from the Rochester Public School system. He then served in the Air Force. He was honorably discharged early because of a medical condition. He worked in the restaurant industry most of his life as a cook and chef. He retired as an employee of Treasure Island and Casino. During his retirement he worked part-time for Bentley, Wennes, and Dokken Auctions. He was married and then later divorced. His son Larry sadly died in 2006. His second family were the residents of Sunrise Care Facilities in Spring Grove, Minnesota. He moved to Sunrise in 2002 and lived there for 9 months. He remained in Spring Grove and became an AA member. Then over the years he continued friending, talking, supporting, and mentoring other Sunrise residents. His 17 years of sobriety was a major accomplishment. He often said that moving to Spring Grove, Minnesota saved his life. He appreciated his time here and wants to thank the people of Spring Grove for their friendship. Ken was not sure if he was going to Heaven or Hell but was confident that he knew people in both places. Ken will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, kindness to people around him, and appreciative gestures when people did something kind for him. He donated his body to Mayo Medical Services and his ashes will eventually be interred at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, Minnesota. His final wishes were to thank special friends, Nancy Perry, "Jerry" , Kris Olson, Betty and Mark Dokken, Heather Reay of Mayo Hospice Services, Al Frydenlund, Glorianne Mulvenna, and Pastor Lane Zaffke of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ken is survived by his former wife Marge Weatherly, daughter Lynn Anderson, daughter and husband Roland and Shawn Smith, grandchildren Travis, Shane, Joshua, and Mariah. He spent his entire life loving his family but was unable to see them. All memorials donated in honor of Ken should be made out and sent to Sunrise Care Facilities 551 S Division Ave Spring Grove, Minnesota 55974. God bless the memory of Ken Henry Weatherly.
