Kenneth John Kappauf, 90, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Ken was born August 28, 1928 in Sandstone, MN to Arthur and Anna (Feyma) Kappauf. He was a 1946 graduate of Sandstone High School and went on to the Kahler Hospital School of Nursing. Before he could finish his education, Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After his time in the Army, Ken resumed his education at the Mayo Nurse Anesthesia program and then began his career in neuro surgery as a nurse anesthetist for 35 years. On August 21, 1955, Ken married Joyce Siems at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco. In 1962, Ken and Joyce together established Sekapp Orchard. Ken was President of both the Minnesota and Wisconsin Apple Growers Associations and he was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church for over 60 years, where he served in many positions. He was also a member of the American Legion. Ken and Joyce enjoyed traveling the World together. They visited Alaska, South America, Central America, Asia, Hawaii, China and all over the United States. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and collecting many different things. Ken loved maintaining the apple orchard and loved having Google satisfy his curious mind. He was a kind, smart, ambitious, generous, insightful and welcoming man who will be very missed by his family and friends. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce; children, Todd (Diana), Tamara (Richard), Terrence Frederick; daughter-in-law, Janeen; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; parents, Arthur and Anna; sister, Francis and brother, William. A funeral service to celebrate Ken's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 5500 25th Ave. NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Larry Orth will be officiating with burial at Oronoco Cemetery.
