Kenneth D. Stoltenberg, 90, of Rochester, MN passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at his residence. Kenneth Donald Stoltenberg was born in Rochester, MN on June 30, 1925.Ken resided here in Rochester except for years 1943-1946 while he served in the U.S. Navy.He graduated from Rochester High School.Ken married Ione Beck on October 31, 1945 in Norcross, MN. After Kens naval service he worked as an engineer for KROC radio then as assistant chief engineer for KROC-TV.He later started his own communications business.During this time he was engineer for KFSI at its beginning.He was past president of Suburban Toastmasters.Ken served as chairman of the Minnesota Conservation Federation meeting held in Rochester. Ken was named tree farmer of the year 1966 in Fillmore County.He was the Orphan Grain Train vice president for the MN South District.He served on various church boards and committees including several at Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was a member.He was a lifetime member of, The Audio Engineering Society, VFW, American Forestry Association and the U.S. Navy Cruisers Sailors Association and Edina Yacht Club.He enjoyed building scale model radio controlled ships. Ken is survived by his wife, Ione Stoltenberg; four children, James (Judy) Stoltenberg of North Carolina; Nancy Johnson of Rochester, Barry (Suzanne) Stoltenberg of Edina and Susan (Gary) Schmidt of Waconia; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two step sisters, Mary Ann White and Loretta Campbell. He is preceded in death by step brother, Art Stoltenberg. The family would like to thank Natalie Young of Mayo Palliative Care and Mayo Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church (869 7th Avenue SE).Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Orphan Grain Train or Redeemer Lutheran Endowment Fund.
