Keith Eugene Rysted, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 80 in Rochester, MN. Born on February 11, 1944, Keith lived a fulfilling life dedicated to family, faith, and service.
Keith proudly served his country as an Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War. Keith reenlisted and served in the Army National Guard. He later dedicated himself to a career in law enforcement with the Rochester Police Department. His commitment to duty and service extended beyond his military and professional life into his roles as a loving husband to Sandy Rysted until her passing in 2013, and a devoted father to his four daughters, from youngest to eldest, Julie Waller (Robert) of Miami, Okla, Jackie Arndt (Bill) of Rochester, Minn., Diane Ackerman of Albert Lea, Minn., and Barbara Rysted of Albert Lea, Minn. He is survived by his brother, Robert Rysted of Oklahoma City, Okla., his sisters Kitty Benton of Tulsa, Okla. and Mary Gard, and his very dear sister-in-law Debra (Steve) Helgerson of Chatfield, Minn. He is preceded in death by parents, Carl and Alice Rysted; siblings, Bea Johnson, Edgar Rysted, and Joan "Edi" Briggs.
Keith was an avid fisherman, spending many summer fishing trips with his children and grandchildren at various Minnesota lakes. He was a treasure seeker at heart, exploring garage sales and flea markets, where he often found joy in the simplest of things, including his many clocks. He enjoyed dining often at the VFW and cherished his weekly breakfast gatherings with fellow retired officers at Brothers Bar & Grill. Above all, Keith's greatest passion was spending time with his family, whether it was in Minnesota or during his winters as a snowbird in Hudson, FL.
In recent years, Keith found solace and community at Autumn Ridge Church, attending services with his companion, Diane O'Shaughnessy, and finding comfort in contemporary worship music during his drives to and from Minnesota.
Keith leaves behind a legacy of love and service, remembered fondly by his eight grandchildren: Bill, Andy, Brett, Kelsey, John Tanner, Skylar, Nick, and Mars, as well as his eight great-grandchildren and numerous friends and extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Autumn Ridge Church on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Keith was a true patriot, and he truly loved his country. In honor of Keith's love for his country, guests are requested to wear red, white, and blue and/or exhibit the American flag.
His life was a testament to his enduring values of loyalty, service, and generosity. Keith will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
