Kathryn (Kate) Ann Benscoter, 88, of Rochester, passed away peacefully after a very brief illness with her family by her side on April 30, 2019, at St. Mary's. Her funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Reverend Elizabeth Macaulay officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood East Cemetery. Kathryn Ann Benscoter was born on January 27, 1931, in Nuangola, Pennsylvania. She was the second of four daughters born to Clarence and Edith (Ruth) Ogin. Kate grew up in the coal mining area of Pennsylvania, and graduated from Newport Township High School in Wanamie, Pennsylvania, in 1949. After high school, Kate worked different jobs, including the Centre Democrat newspaper in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, the J.B. Carr company, and the Rifkin company in Wilkes-Barre. On June 29, 1957, Kate married Walter Allen Benscoter in Slocum, Pennsylvania. The couple moved to Rochester in 1967. Their son, Mark, was born in 1970. Kate and Walt enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Kate was a beloved and dedicated wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She took care of her family first and foremost. She always put the needs of others before her own. Kate was always at the ready with a smile, an ear to listen, time to talk, or a sweet treat. She enjoyed making ceramics, fishing, needlepoint, flower gardening, baking, and the Minnesota Twins. Kate loved her family tremendously, and she showed her love every day in her own quiet and gentle way. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, Walter Benscoter; son, Mark (Catherine) Benscoter, and four grandchildren, Samuel, William, Matthew, and Marin, all of Rochester.
