Kathleen "Kathy" Glawe

June 8, 1939 — October 25, 2019

Kathleen Nancy Glawe passed peacefully to her heavenly home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from her earthly home early Friday, October 25, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease surrounded by her family at her bedside. Kathy was born on June 8, 1939, to James and Gladys (Anderson) Denham, and was an only child having grown up in Fairmont, Minnesota where she graduated from high school. After next graduating from Mankato State University, she met her sweetheart John at an ice-skating party. Kathy married John Glawe on August 11, 1962, and after living in Madelia, Rochester, Fairmont, Charles City (Iowa), and Coon Rapids, they decided to settle on a small farm near West Concord, MN, where they raised their four children amidst bounteous gardens and various farm animals. In 1979 they moved back to Rochester, where they remained until 1987, excluding a short relocation to Toronto, Canada in 1981/1982, later moving to a farm outside of Pine Island. During this time, Kathy went back to school and got her Master's Degree at Winona State University in Special Education, and taught in Zumbrota, Wanamingo, and Rochester, working hard to help her students succeed and was very proud of her role in their development and educational achievements. She will be remembered as a gifted educator. Kathy had many passions and hobbies. She learned music at an early age, playing viola, cello, piano, clarinet, and accordian. Kathy loved reading and writing and was a talented artist, making many works of art in various mediums. She drew upon these artistic passions teaching her children songs and infusing their education with music, art, and instilling the love of reading. Family was very important to Kathy, and she enjoyed planning family activities, coordinating family reunions, and making sure everyone's birthday was recognized. Kathy is survived by her husband John, her four children Caroline, Elisabeth, Margaret, and John (and their spouses), and seven grandchildren whom she adored. Kathy's family would like to thank the medical and support people at Mayo Care Transition Program and Mayo Hospice Program, as well as the many caregivers from Home Instead and Visiting Angels that assisted with her needs over the past three years. The funeral will be held at 11:00am, Monday, November 4th at Autumn Ridge-Timothy Chapel 3611 Salem Rd. SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00pm on Sunday, November 3rd at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901 and an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery following the service. The family suggests memorials to Parkinson's Foundation.
