Rochester: Kathleen Matthews Irvine, 91, of Rochester, Minnesota formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, died peacefully on February 15, 2010, while living at Charter House.Kathleen was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 26, 1918, the second child and second daughter of Francis P. Matthews and Mary Claire (Hughes) Matthews. She attended Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, and graduated from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City. In June 1940, she married James Robert O'Connell in Omaha. They raised three children; the marriage ended in 1962. In 1968, she married Charles A. Irvine and together with him and his children, they made their home in Elkhorn, Nebraska for many years.Kathleen was active in community service groups in Omaha, serving on the Boards of many institutions including the Omaha Junior Theater, Ak-Sar-Ben, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Duchesne Alumnae, the American Red Cross, and several hospitals.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen O'Connell Shey Weyman; her husband, Charles Irvine; and her four sisters, Mary Clair Matthews Dwyer, Patricia Matthews Rosser Belvin, Marian Matthews Howard and Marguerite Matthews Schneider.Kathleen is survived by children, Sharon O'Connell Rome (Jeffrey) of Rochester, MN, James Robert O'Connell, Jr. of Boston, MA, Susan Irvine Garwood (Vernon) of Lincoln, NE, Jim Irvine (Cindy) of Omaha, NE, Wendy Irvine Kent (Steve) of Phoenix, AZ, and John Irvine of Omaha, NE; her brother, Frank Matthews of Omaha, NE; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her special freiends, Tina Van Hilst of Rochester, MN and M.C. Garvey of Omaha, NE.A memorial service will be held at the Charter House on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.
