Karen Schwartzkopf

Karen Schwartzkopf, 72, of Rochester, died of pneumonia at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home in Rochester on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Samaritan Bethany on 8th, 24 Eighth Street NW, Rochester, MN with a visitation one hour prior. The inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Karen was born to Ruth and Roy Schmit on August 8, 1945, in Staples, Minnesota. Early in the 1950's, the family moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin. Karen attended the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped in Janesville, Wisconsin, graduating in 1964. She then attended the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. She married David Schwartzkopf and they later divorced. Karen worked at IBM Rochester until she retired. Karen battled M.S. for 45 years and was a resident of Samaritan Bethany for the past 14 years. She was preceded in death by her father Roy, brother Gary, and stepmother Anna Mae Schmit.
