June Marie (Wilberding) Schmitz, 88 of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully December 2, 2017. She joins her beloved husband of 65 years, Michael "Mickey." June was born in 1929 in Dubuque, IA to Carl and Nuala (Byrne) Wilberding. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy High School in 1947. She and Mickey were married June 26, 1951 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City, WI. Devoted Mother of four: Sister Beth, OSF, of Milwaukee, WI; Chris (Mary Jean Dietzel) of Rochester, MN; Tim (Michelle Frenette) of Itasca, IL; and Amy (Harry) Halloran of Wauwatosa, WI. She doted on her four adoring grandchildren and loved telling them stories and bragging about them to anyone who would listen: Michael Schmitz (Ann Wagner) of Arlington, VA; Nick Schmitz of Green Bay, WI; Claire Halloran of Cambridge, MA/Wauwatosa,WI; and Sophia Halloran of Wauwatosa, WI. She is survived by a brother, Jerome Wilberding, and her only sister, Jane Gundlach. She's preceded in death by her parents and brothers Carl, Kenneth, Byrne, and David. June was an accomplished seamstress, making numerous creations for her children and grandchildren, including christening and bridal gowns, baby clothes - and even a Star Trek costume. She will be remembered by the many needlework pieces she made and gave to family. When she wasn't sewing or stitching, she kept busy volunteering for St. Rose Church and school, including Catholic Daughters of America; President of the Altar Society; Religious Education instructor; and reading tutor. She also served on the Cuba City Library Board and fulfilled her civic duty working at the polls every election. June and Mickey lived in Prairie du Chien and Shullsburg before settling in Cuba City for 42 years; they moved to Rochester, MN 15 years ago. They spent their retirement traveling and wintering in Florida. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, December 9, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI. A funeral mass will follow the visitation. Burial will be at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery immediately following.
